John McGloin took the video while working off the coast of Connemara with his friend Joao Rosa when the shark came over to their boat.

They explained that the shark remained by their boat for a few minutes, before moving away from them.

John shared that Joao believed it to be a great white shark, which is not particularly common in Irish waters, the Galway Beo reported.

John shared: “Me and my friend were out fishing and one guy had a fish on when they spotted a fin coming their direction. He took out his phone straight away to try and record."

“He said that there is no doubt that it is a Great White Shark with about three meters in length. The shark was very curious, circling around the boat for a couple minutes until it disappeared.

“It wasn’t far from the coast and my friend has spotted a few fins in the last few days around the Galway area, mostly in between Spiddal and the Aran Islands. So this is a warning to all the swimmers.”

Great white sharks are frequently found around coastal and offshore waters with warmer temperatures ranging from 12 to 24 degrees, such as California in the United States, New Zealand, southern Australia and South Africa and other parts of Africa.

However, in more recent years, researchers believe that climate change may be responsible for more great white sharks being seen around Ireland.

In the summer of 2021, a known white shark called Nukimi was tracked leaving her usual feeding area to head towards Ireland.

Many people consider great white sharks to be the most dangerous sharks as they have been involved in more reported attacks on humans than any other shark.

However, such attacks are not that common. There were 84 attacks reported in 2023 related to sharks, with 18 fatalities. Five of these deaths were due to great white sharks, according to SURFER Magazine.
