France striker Antoine Griezmann was left bloodied after a collision with advertising hoardings against Austria.

The Atletico Madrid forward was named in Les Bleus' starting XI for their Euro 2024 Group D opener against Austria on Monday. He was caught in the middle of a bruising clash during the second half.

Griezmann attempted to go toe-to-toe with Austria defender Max Wober on the byline. The Leeds man, who was already on a booking after a crunching foul in the first half, shoved his opponent off the pitch and into the advertising hoardings.

Griezmann landed head-first into the pitchside advertising. The painful collision resulted in the striker sustaining a nasty gash to the side of his head.

France medical staff treated him on the pitch before he was then taken off for more detailed treatment. Griezmann had a considerable bandage placed over the injury.

But it did not last very long as it fell off in the next move. Griezmann attempted to replace the headwear but was unsuccessful and threw it to the ground. He did not manage to get his bandage back on but continued regardless.

Luckily, the injury did not appear to harm Griezmann's performance. He was still a huge threat for France in their opener against Austria.

Griezmann, 33, is one of the most experienced players at the tournament in Germany. He has 129 French caps to his name having won the World Cup with the side in 2018.

Griezmann has scored 44 goals for the nation and was also the joint top goalscorer at Euro 2016. He currently sits fourth in France's all-time top scorers list, behind only Kylian Mbappe, Thierry Henry and record-holder Olivier Giroud.

Griezmann earned his spot in Didier Deschamps' latest selection after a season in which he scored 24 goals in all competitions for Atletico Madrid.

Team-mate Mbappe took centre stage for Les Bleus as they claimed the lead. His wicked cross was deflected home by Griezmann's aggressor Wober to give France the lead in Dusseldorf.

Following their clash with Austria, France continue their group campaign against the Netherlands before rounding off against Poland. Austria will also take on both as they attempt to reach the knockout rounds.
