Storm Ashley striking Ireland before 'possible red warning' Hurricane ...

Hurricane Kirk

Weather Alerts Ireland advised that the former Tropical Storm Kirk has become a Category 1 Hurricane.

They wrote to social media: "Kirk has transitioned from a Tropical Storm into a Cat 1 Hurricane overnight. The path of Kirk still looks as though it will push towards Ireland but lots of uncertainty on this."

Ireland Weather Channel wrote to Facebook: "Tropical Storm Kirk has strengthened further last night with the storm now officially classified as a hurricane, Hurricane Kirk. Located in the central Atlantic it’s expected to deepen rapidly over the coming days, becoming a Major Hurricane by the weekend, before gradually weakening as it encounters the cooler water of the North Atlantic.

"Hurricane Kirk’s latest path continues to take it to the northeast towards northwest Europe. With some agreement emerging amongst the various weather models that Kirk will have some impacts across Ireland and the UK as an extra-tropical storm towards the middle of next week, though this remains subject to changes in the storms evolution."

Ireland's Weather Channel added that in the mean time, there would be a "dry settled spell from Tuesday of this week until tomorrow night".

However, the weather will become unsettled again with a deep area of low pressure arriving over the weekend.

Ireland's Weather Channel says this will "feed up a warm moisture-laden airmass from the south", bringing heavy rains in some areas and a risk of localised flooding.

Weatherman Dan Brockman also speculated over the arrival of the storm: "Over a week away so not definite yet but a deep low pressure could impact the UK. Storm Ashley?"
