Independent Ireland candidate's father passes away on election day
The father of Independent Ireland Dáil candidate Cllr. Noel Thomas has passed away this morning, on election day.
In a statement, Independent Ireland posted a tribute to the deceased, offering “condolences” to the candidate and his family.
“It is with regret that we announce that the father of our candidate in Galway West, Noel Thomas Snr. Passed away this morning,” the statement read.
“Noel Snr. will be sadly missed by his wife Sheila, his family and all his many neighbours and friends. All of us at Independent Ireland send our condolences and our thoughts are with Noel Thomas and his family at this very difficult time.
“Ar dheis dé go raibh a anam.”
Cllr. Thomas is known for being involved in local protests in Galway against the Ross Lake Hotel asylum centre, leaving Fianna Fáil earlier this year over what he said was the party’s “detachment” from ordinary people. Running as an Independent, topped the poll in Connemara South in the local elections in June, receiving 1,569 votes
He has been a Councillor for 10 years and have been involved in local activism for 25.
