Ireland head into the game on the back of a good win over Hungary last week when Troy Parrott's late goal sealed a 2-1 victory.

Interim Head Coach John O'Shea could further cement his chances of taking the managerial reins full time with a strong showing against Portugal who are among the favourites for Euro 2024.

TEAM NEWS

Ireland have no injury concerns in the squad for the game at the Aveiro Municipal Stadium on Tuesday evening and Jake O'Brien look set to be handed his first senior international start after a good substitute appearance against Hungary. Striker Tom Cannon is also likely to feature at some stage tonight.

The starting eleven will be named closer to kick-off. On the other side, Portugal are likely to field a strong team in order to be tournament ready for Euro 2024. Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes will be the big stars on show.

TV CHANNEL

The game kicks off at 7.45pm and live coverage will begin on RTE 2 television and the RTE Player at 7pm. Darragh Maloney will present the coverage.

MANAGER COMMENTS

Republic of Ireland interim manager John O'Shea has been speaking to the media ahead of the game, particularly about his former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

He said: “Look, we were fully aware of his talent, obviously, that night in Lisbon.

“But the player that arrived into Old Trafford, into Carrington, I’ve mentioned before many times, his dedication in terms of improving his technique every week, every day…

“Look, there was some tough challenges, not only in terms of the opposition he was facing, but also in the training matches. We were making him fully prepared for what the Premier League was going to be, the tests he was going to have to face.

“It wasn’t a surprise to me to see what he’s gone on to do because we saw how special a player he was very early.

“I’ve no doubt whatever plans or rotations Portugal will have to use him to maximise how far they get in the tournament, I think Ronaldo will be a key part of that, definitely.”
