Full time: Portugal 3-0 IrelandA tough night at the office for interim boss John O'Shea and the Ireland players as Portugal's class shines through.

Just one minute plus additional time left and Portugal have a corner. Nunes finds Fernandes with the short delivery and it is worked across.

When Ireland win the ball back, Johnston attacks and sends it into the box for Diogo Costa to make a rare save.

Ireland have just had a spell on the ball and Mark Sykes, only on the field, attempts to go it alone in the Portuguese half.

PSG full-back Nuno Mendes is quick enough to stop him though.

With ten minutes on the clock, Portugal are quite content to keep possession and spray the ball around.

Ireland eventually rob it back and Tom Cannon looks to play in fellow substitute Mikey Johnston, but it's snuffed out.

It's too easy for Portugal at the minute and Ronaldo very nearly has his hat-trick, sending an effort wide of Kelleher's post.

Fernandes then goes by Cullen like he isn't there and O'Brien has to block the shot.

Kelleher dives low to save from Fernandes after O'Brien had given the ball way.

If O'Shea was hoping for an improved performance in the second half, he won't be at all impressed with what he is witnessing.

Moments later, Kelleher and Ronaldo tangle and the latter is again pleading for a penalty. It's not given.

O'Brien blocks from Portugal substitute Nelson Semedo and the resulting corner is played as far as Nuno Mendes, who shoots low for Kelleher to save.

That would have been quite the debut goal for Tom Cannon. The 21-year-old shows pace and quick feet to take the ball past Danilo then tries to find the bottom corner, but shoots narrowly wide.

And there's goal number 130 for Ronaldo. Diogo Jota shows persistence to get past a couple of Irish players and then tees up Ronaldo, who sweeps home clinically with a first-time finish.

After reviewing the incident, referee Chris Kavanagh has in fact opted to reverse the decision and give a free to Ireland.

O'Brien takes a heavy touch and appears to trip Jota right on the edge of the box. Referee Chris Kavanagh is advised to take a look at the monitor and this could be a penalty.

Here is a senior international debut for Leicester City's Tom Cannon. The hope is that he can become a big player for Ireland, as this squad is not blessed with consistent goalscorers.
