Ireland v Wales LIVE updates as Girls in Green look to secure Euros ...

Heartbreak for Ireland as the final wistle blows. History for Wales as they qualify for a major tournament for the first time. Ireland will rue a number of missed chances and the penalty looked harsh. Irish players in tears at the final whistle and the crowd is stunned into silence. Ireland threw everything at it in the final 15 minutes or so but it was always going to be a mountain to climb.

Kiernan is put through from a ball over the top but Roberts makes a brilliant recovering challenge. O'Sullivan has a great chance from the resulting corner but it's deflected over the bar

Campbell's long throw causes havoc and a shot is hooked off the line. The ref's watch doesn't buzz and it's still 2-1. A sea of bodies then go to ground from another Campbell throw but Wales manage to clear. It's edge of the seat stuff now at the Aviva.

A minute to go and Clark goes down looking for treatment. You would wonder how injured she is... 8 minutes of added time signalled by the fourth official though so still time for Ireland

Anna Patten nods in after Clark saves her initial header from a McCabe corner. Five minutes left and it's 2-1. Grandstand finish incoming. Can Ireland clinch the equaliser?

Atkinson and Larkin are on for Carusa and Payne. Last throw of the dice from Eileen Gleeson with 7 minutes to go plus whatever the ref adds on.

Griffiths comes off for Powell

It's all a bit rushed and frantic now as Ireland try to get back into the game. Leanne Kiernan is booked for a late challenge and Eileen Gleeson uses the break in play to have a word with her players. 79 minutes gone but with a number of subs and this break in play for Evans to receive treatment we could see a few minutes of injury time.

Ireland appeal for a penalty as the balls appears to brush a Welsh hand from a corner. The ref doesn't give it and Wales break quickly with James bringing a great save from the Irish keeper.

Rowe does brilliantly down the left and whips in a great cross that Cain just can't get her outstretched foot to. Had she made contact it surely would have been a second for Wales.

Brosnan goes very early to her right and Cain strokes it into the opposite corner. 1-0 Wales after 50 minutes

The ref is called to view the screen by VAR. No players appealed after a ball was swung into the Irish box. It brushes Patten's hand and the penalty is given. Looks very harsh

We're back underway at the Aviva. History beckons for one of these sides - but which one will it be?

It remains 0-0 at the break. Ireland have probably had the better of the play and had a decent penalty shout waved away by Spanish referee Marta Huerta De Aza. But Wales have had chances of their own and will fancy their chances of nicking something in the second half.

Eileen Gleeson will need to have a word with her captain during the break as McCabe looks fired up and having received a final warning from the ref, she will need to keep her head to avoid a second yellow The Welsh players will surely be trying to wind her up in the second half.

That said, the Arsenal star has played very well and been at the heart of most good things for Ireland. O'Sullivan and Carusa have also done well while Fahey has used all of her experience to marshall the backline when needed. A big 45 minutes ahead.

She's only ever scored once in over 100 games for Ireland but Niamh Fahey just fizzes one wide after a long ball falls invitingly for her.

The skipper loses her footing as she tries to break into the box and swipes at Fishlock who is straight over to the ref calling for a second yellow. The ref settles for giving McCabe a talking to but she is really walking a tightrope now for the rest of the game.

Courtney Borsnan does really well to get down to her left to palm away a superb free kick from Woodham. The Irish keeper is quickly called into action again to get smartly down to her left to parry a shot from the resulting corner. 35 minutes gone.

Carusa is doing brilliantly stretching the Welsh defence and she does so again to create space for Julie-Ann Russell, whose shot is well saved by Clark and Payne hits the follow up wide. Ireland knocking on the door now with half an hour gone but you feel they will need to convert one of these chances while they're on top.

The ball is worked from a corner to McCabe and she fizzes a shot from outside the box just wide. McCabe and O'Sullivan coming to the fore for Ireland now as they start to get on top with 25 minutes gone.

Carusa breaks down the left and feeds O'Sullivan who curls a brilliant shot that leaves Clark stranded in the Wales goal but it agonisingly hits the crossbar and Payne can't control the rebound.

20 minutes in and McCabe floats a free kick from the left. Patten peels off at the back post but she can't keep the header down.

Wales' dangerwoman Jess Fishlock hits a volley from the edge of the D but it's straight at Brosnan. Fishlock is put thorugh moments later and Brosnan bravely gets out to somther the ball although Wales' record goalscorer is flagged for offside. 15 minutes gone and Wales are growing into this one as McCabe picks up a yellow card for a late tackle on Green.

Ireland have started well but Wales have looked dangerous on the counter. No clearcut chances for either side yet though as McCabe flashes a cross from the left hand side but there's no one in the box on the end of it.

McCabe plays it short to O'Sullivan but she overhits the return pass and it goes out for a goal kick. An encouraging start from Ireland but they'll need to improve their final ball.

Littlejohn's delivery is disappointing as it's floated into the arms of Clark, squandering a chance for a very early lead. But Ireland continue their positive start as Heather Payne wins another corner for Ireland.
