Ireland weather: Met Eireann issues miserable weekend forecast ...

Ireland will be hit with periods of heavy rain with the potential for spot flooding this weekend as showers pour down around the country.

Met Éireann has warned that the coming days will be generally unsettled with rain or showers at times, although daytime temperatures will range from about 16C to 22C.

While there will be some sunny spells across Friday, rain will develop into the evening, spreading across most of the country, before Ireland is blasted with showers on Saturday throughout the day, which will thankfully clear for the evening.

Sunday is set to start off dry, but rain will develop in the west during the morning and then spread eastwards to all areas through the afternoon and evening. Currently, Monday looks like a mixed bag of sunny spells and wet weather, while Tuesday will be drier before the rain returns.

Here is Met Éireann’s forecast for the rest of the week:

Thursday

Today will start off cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle in most areas. Brighter weather will develop in the west later this morning and will extend eastwards this afternoon and evening. Eastern areas will stay cloudy and damp all day. Highest temperatures of 16C to 21C with light to moderate southerly breezes.

Tonight, any lingering rain or drizzle in the east will clear and it will be become largely dry with clear spells. A few patches of mist or fog may develop. Lowest temperatures of 8C to 13C, coldest in the west with light variable breezes.

Friday

Friday morning will be mainly dry with some bright or sunny spells. Cloud will gradually increase from the west. Rain will develop on the west coast by early evening and will spread into western parts of Ulster, Connacht and Munster. Highest temperatures of 16C to 22C, warmest in the east and northeast with moderate southerly winds.

Friday night will be cloudy with rain becoming widespread and turning heavy at times. It will be mild and humid with temperatures of 13C to 15C and mostly light southwesterly or variable winds.

Saturday

Saturday morning will be wet with rain in most areas, heavy at times with spot flooding possible. Rain will gradually clear eastwards through the afternoon and evening with sunny spells and a few showers following.

Highest temperatures of 15C to 20C with light southerly breezes becoming northwesterly as rain clears and freshening. Saturday night will be cooler and fresher with clear spells and a few showers in the west. Lowest temperatures of 8C to 11C with light to moderate northwest breezes.

Sunday

Sunday will start off mainly dry. However, rain will develop in the west during the morning and then spread eastwards to all areas through the afternoon and evening. It will gradually clear overnight with scattered showers following. Highest temperatures of 15C to 19C with moderate to fresh southerly winds.

Next week

Monday will be a bright, fresh day with sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 16C to 21C with moderate to fresh west to northwest winds.

At the moment, Tuesday looks like being mainly dry with sunny spells and highs of 17C to 20C. However, more rain is expected to move in from the west on Wednesday.
