Live updates on Joey Barton as shock rant slammed by commentators

ALEX Scott has broken her silence on Joey Barton's shock rant about female commentators.
Former Manchester City and Newcastle star Barton went into a tirade on X, formerly known as Twitter, claiming women are not qualified to talk about the men's game.
His tirade on X included saying that women commentating on men's football was the same as him "talking about knitting or netball" - and called those who disagreed with him "eunuchs" and "fart parcels".
In an Instagram story, Scott and an unknown colleague can be heard laughing about Barton's comments.

Alex Scott suggested she "doesn't want to give oxygen" to Joey Barton's sexist rants.
Scott spoke out on Twitter while sharing an article which sees her speak about her charity work.
She wrote: “Only thing I want to give oxygen to today on this platform & raise my voice to right now is this article below and how I'm so honoured to have spent the day yesterday with Refuge Charity who continue to do such incredible vital work for women & children.”
The stakes were high going into the last Premier League game of the season in 2012 between Barton’s QPR and title-chasing Manchester City.
Joey didn’t help his teams’ cause surviving relegation though, after he was sent off for elbowing Carlos Tevez in the throat.
He also kicked out at Sergio Aguero, before a red card was shown AND squared up to Vincent Kompany and Mario Balotelli as he left the pitch.
Barton was suspended for 12 games by the FA following the incident.
Joey’s brother Michael was jailed for life, alongside his cousin Paul Taylor for the 2005 murder of 18-year-old Anthony Walker.
Astonishingly, Barton reduced the brutal racist attack as a “scrap”.
In a promotional clip for a podcast, Barton blamed Taylor for the July 29 killing in Merseyside.
He said Michael – moved to an open prison last year – “lost 17 years of his life” thanks to his cousin’s actions.
Barton added: “His mate, who was his cousin at the time, thought it would be a fantastic idea, when they were having a f*****g scrap, to pull an ice axe out and swing it into somebody and it stuck in his head.”
The Anthony Walker Foundation, founded by his mum Gee Walker, said Barton’s comments were “factually incorrect”.
In 2008, Barton was sentenced to six months behind bars for common assault and affray during an incident in Liverpool City Centre.
The incident didn’t leave Barton in the best light – punching a man 20 times and breaking a teenager’s teeth.
CCTV captured the fight, and with the once-capped England star already on bail over an allegation of criminal damage involving a Liverpool taxi driver and THAT fight with Dabo, the book was thrown at him.
Barton was convicted of assault and served 77 days in prison.
Football fans have used Joey Barton’s sexist rants as a good excuse to mock the Rangers’ flop.
Responding to his latest tweet, one person said: “This is a new low even for your standards and that’s really mindblowing to say the least.”
And another added: “It all makes sense now. Past few days have all been a publicity stunt for your podcast and for attention.”
Joey Barton has caused a social media storm by going on several sexist rants on Twitter this week.
Joey Barton tweeted: “Women shouldn’t be talking with any kind of authority in the men’s game. Come on. Let’s be serious.
“It’s a completely different game. If you don’t accept that. We will always see things differently.
“The women’s game is thriving. Fantastic to see.
“I cannot take a thing they say serious in the men’s arena.”
Joey Barton has claimed women have no right to comment on men’s football as they have no experience with it.
Speaking on TalkTV, Piers Morgan pointed out the irony in this statement as he questioned if Joey Barton has any experience in “top-level football”.
Joey Barton has zero Champions League appearances and never played in a major international competition.
He also never won a major trophy as a player or manager.
Joey Barton knows what it means to be controversial, from sexist social media rants to crunching tackles, he is often in the headlines.
Recently, Barton made the news after bizarrely claiming women should not be allowed to commentate on men’s football.
With that, we looked back at his most controversial moments over the years:
Laura Woods has hit back at Joey Barton after he claimed women should not commentate on men’s football.
She tweeted: “Usually avoid these conversations as I don’t like adding more oxygen. But throwing young vloggers to the wolves is wrong.
“I started my career vlogging and I’ve always got on with Joey. He also sent me a lovely good luck message for TNT in June. Does that make him a eunuch too?
“Joey’s entitled to his opinion. If he feels that strongly about women in the men’s game he could ask for a private conversation with the broadcasters & state his case.
“These tweets only encourage a pile on for the women getting on with their jobs. Or was that the intention?”
Joey Barton and Georgia McNeil were childhood sweethearts.
Barton married longterm partner McNeil in a lavish ceremony at the Aynhoe Park country estate in Banbury, Oxfordshire.
The wedding took place on the fifth birthday of their daughter in 2019.
Though Joey is known for being outspoken on social media, he shares much less about his partner and his private life in the public domain, so there is very little information about his wife available.
Barton is a former footballer who played for teams including Manchester City, Newcastle, Queens Park Rangers and Rangers.
Joey started his 15-year playing career with Manchester City in 2002 after going through their youth system, going on to make 150 appearances for the club.
He then moved to Newcastle in a £5.8million transfer in July 2007, before leaving for QPR in August 2011.
The midfielder was then put on loan to French side Marseille during the 2012-13 season, then making his way to Burnley for one season — helping the Clarets win promotion to the Premier League.
Barton made one appearance for England in 2007 — despite criticising some of his fellow teammates.
Joey also had a dismal six-month stint at Rangers in the Scottish Premiership in 2016.
When quizzed by Piers Morgan about women commentating football, Barton said: "She hasn’t played in it.
"One is 200 years old and one is about 40 years old.
"It’s the same rules but football is about a lot more than rules.
"The games are at two different speeds."

Bianca Westwood took to social media to humble Joey Barton after his collection of sexist Twitter tirades.
She questioned: “Who is qualified to speak on football then? I’ve been watching football for 40 years, my first game at West Ham was before Joey was even born.
"I’ve been watching hours and hours of football. I worked behind the scenes at Sky for 10 years before I was even given a shot on camera, watching my male colleagues who maybe weren’t as good as I was, getting chances I was never given.
“I don’t really understand what we need to know, how long we need to work behind the scenes before we are allowed on camera. To be a pundit, the laws are the same. Emma Hayes and Sarina Wiegman can both read the game, are you saying they can’t offer an insight?
“Sounds like to me that Joey has a problem with particular pundits who haven’t done enough in the game, but how does he know? And how do we quantify that? There’s EFL players who are commentating, co-commentating on Champions League games. So what level - as far as Joey Barton is concerned - do you have to get before you can be an expert on the ‘men’s game’?”

Fans have taken to social media to defend women's contributions to football amid Joey Barton's claims they have no place in the game.
One fan said: "Laura Woods, Kelly Cates, Robyn Cowen , Betty Glover, Eilidh Barbour and Kelly Somers are a few of the best in the game.
"They know their football, they understand it fully in depth and are extremely knowledgeable and informative to listen to. This tweet is so wrong Joey."
Another added: "Who is this clown?"
Pundit, TV presenter and Champions League winner Alex Scott was also drawn into the saga after Barton claimed she “shouldn't commentate on the men’s game”, claiming she was not qualified to do so.
The former England and Arsenal Women's star laughed off Barton's comment before an interview with a BBC colleague, with many others slamming his views.
