The funeral details have been announced for John Dooley, the Kildare gardener who tragically passed away yesterday just days after displaying his gardening craftsmanship at Bloom Gardening Festival.

John, from Castledermot, co. Kildare, had only last week won RTÉ’s Super Garden show, which had meant that his work was displayed at the Bord Bia Bloom festival in the Phoenix Park, where tens of thousands of people flocked to over the weekend.

Named 'Back to the Future', John's garden created a low-maintenance, sustainable, and bio diverse garden for Daija and her two daughters, Amanda and Amelia. John's design accommodated Daija's scoliosis and offered an easy-to-care-for space for the family to enjoy.

"I would have never had the courage to enter it and just can't believe how well we've done at it," he told RTÉ ahead of the weekend festivities.

John Dooley’s death notice on Wednesday said his death was “deeply regretted by his loving wife Liz, brothers, sisters, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends”.

His remains will repose in Dunne’s Funeral Home, Mill Road, Castledermot, Co Kildare, from noon on Friday, concluding with rosary at 8pm.

His removal will take place on Saturday at 11.30am to the Church of The Assumption, Castledermot, arriving for requiem mass at noon followed by burial in Coltstown Cemetery.

In Super Garden, Mr Dooley was described as “a former farm manager with a lifelong passion for gardening”.

John Dooley's death notice asks for "family flowers only please", and welcomes donations to the Irish Heat Foundation.

John's Funeral Mass can be viewed on livestream here.
