The rock superstar suffered an atrophied vocal cord and had an operation two years ago. He has been going through vocal rehab and is on the road to recovery, but has made it clear that he needs his voice to be in tip-top condition.

He said his band Bon Jovi – known for massive hits like Livin’ On A Prayer, Bed Of Roses and You Give Love A Bad Name – would tour again if his vocals were up to it.

What, how and why?

The singer addressed his vocal injury on ITV’s This Morning, as he discussed new docuseries Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story.

Presenter Cat Deeley asked about the possibility of another Bon Jovi tour, and the star replied: “My hope is to, my intention is to.” When Deeley asked what would happen if he was not at 100%, the singer said: “Then I’m done. It would be that simple.

“But believe me folks, thank you very much but I’m very far down the road of recovery. I’m not there yet but for me the bar is that two and a half hours a night, four nights a week. That’s what we do. If we are going to play, we play.”

Host Ben Shephard had also quizzed the star about his voice, asking how he was doing. Bon Jovi replied: “What people will see in the film has been shot a year and two years ago, so I am much further along in the process now.

“We have a new album that’s coming out in June, I had no issues in singing it. That successful surgery happened. Now it’s all part of the rehabilitation of the vocal cord, and remember vocal cords are as big as your thumbnail. It’s out of your control really.”

“For 40 years they have worked hard… but it’s coming along thank you,” he said.

Bon Jovi would like to play Glastonbury

Shephard also asked the star about the possibility of doing the Legends slot at Glastonbury, and he suggested Bon Jovi would be keen.

“Well I have done about every other thing in this nation, I mean, why not?” he said. “Hyde Park and Wembley and everything else, I mean, sure, if we go on the road again.”
