The comedian and actor is best known for his role alongside Pat Shortt in the comedy duo that was beloved across Ireland.

He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2000.

This meant that he had to take a step back and stop touring to receive treatment.

Despite being in recovery for 20 years, he has now revealed that his cancer returned “three or four years ago”.

Speaking to Oliver Callan on RTÉ Radio 1, he explained: “I got cancer at the beginning of 2000 and I had no choice but to take a step back. Over the space of two years, I was on different forms of treatment… I got a stem cell transplant, thanks be to god, out in St James’, they sorted me out and I motored on for another while.

“My cancer came back, I had it there, it came back about three or four years ago. So I had some operation to remove some of my left lung and that was good, good luck to that, but didn’t the fecker come back again on my left lung again.

“I’ve been lucky now because my chemo is working. But just in the middle of it all, just at the crack of it, you know when you’re getting on with things and all, I had heart failure. Just throw that in the mix! Nice little cocktail of things to be getting on with.”

He went on to say: ” I’m very lucky. My heart function is back up again, so there’ll be no possibility of me keeling over at my next three outings.”

“I had to take time off because I physically wasn’t able to do anything between treatment for cancer and then my heart failure,” he explained.

“I’m getting [infrequent chemo appointments]. So I won’t feel it in my system and I’ll feel just a little bit, to see how I’m getting on.”
