Jonny Evans to Celtic transfer update amid rumours

Celtic have been linked with plenty of players this summer who played under the management of Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City over the past several years. Some such names are Wilfred Ndidi, Tete and Daniel Amartey. And now, the latest name to be added to that quickly growing list is that of Jonny Evans.

The rumours with Evans are particularly interesting. Rodgers clearly trusted the Northern Irish centre-back a lot, handing him the captain’s armband last season.

Also, he is available as a free agent this summer, as his current deal with Leicester City has run out. Thus, could the Hoops end up making a move for the veteran Premier League defender in order to reunite him with Rodgers? The answer seems to be in the negative.

As reported by Football Scotland, Evans is not a Celtic transfer target this summer despite of having a strong relationship with Rodgers. There has been no approach from the club to the Northern Irish defender.

So, it looks like the rumours are misplaced and that Celtic are not looking to make a move for Evans this summer. The defender should not have a tough time finding a club though.

He has proven himself at the Premier League level for many years and even though he is in his mid-30s, he has been a consistent performer. There have been some rumours that Leicester City are in talks with Evans over a new deal and it remains to be seen if they prove fruitful.

As for Celtic, they could do with another centre-back. Their performances towards the end of last season in the absence of Cameron Carter-Vickers certainly left a lot to be desired. Of course, Rodgers will have a look at the players available in pre-season and make his own judgements accordingly.
