Ten Hag defends under-fire Onana ahead of Newcastle v Man Utd

Aston Villa supporter and Hollywood royalty Tom Hanks has made a cheeky comment about Manchester United fans like Julia Roberts.

Fellow A-lister Roberts is a proud Red Devil and she discussed her support for Erik ten Hag's men when appearing alongside Hanks on Friday's episode of The Graham Norton Show. "I've been to Old Trafford, I'm a true fan," Roberts, 56, proclaimed.

"I have three children and when they were really little and started playing soccer and started watching it on TV. And I didn't ever realise how exciting it was to watch it on television. We just got so into it and somehow Manchester United just became our team, the Moder (her husband's surname) family team. And we became sort of possessed."

Villa-loving Hanks, however, responded by quipping: "Anybody can root for Man United!" Roberts quickly replied to his light-hearted jibe: "Oh, that's not cool."

Hanks, 67, was then asked how he got into supporting his Premier League side. "When I first came to England the football scores were on the BBC and they had all kooky names. And then Aston Villa, I thought, 'That sounds like a lovely place. Oh yes, I'm taking a holiday to Aston Villa, would you like to join?'

"Turns out it's in Birmingham which is a fabulous place! Villa Park is a magnificent stadium to go to," the Cast Away and Saving Private Ryan star added while Norton displayed an image on screen of him celebrating at a Villa match.

Roberts, too, has seen her team in action on various occasions and has even upset Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola because of her allegiance to United. "I'm going to explain a secret," Guardiola admitted in March.

"Even if we win this Champions League or three in a row, I will be a failure. I have three idols in my life: Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and Julia Roberts.

"Julia Roberts came to England a few years ago in the period when Manchester United were not good, we were better, and she came to Manchester United, she didn't come to us. Even if I win the Champions League, it cannot make up for Julia Roberts not coming to see us."
