The Princess of Wales arrived for the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey today, Saturday May 6, wearing a stunning white embroidered Alexander McQueen gown topped with royal blue and red ceremonial robes. Details of the long sleeve gown reveal shimmering silvery embroidery at the sleeves and at the hemline, which matches her floral striking shimmery floral headpiece. This color pairing is a nod, of course, the colors of the Union Jack.

About a week ago, at an official appearance, Middleton mentioned that her outfit would indeed include "a hint of blue." Not only did Queen Camilla wear a stunning white gown with a trailing cape, ornamented with gold embroidery, but white was also worn by a few participants in the procession into Westminster Abbey, including Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh. Also notable, the late Queen Elizabeth II wore a white gown to her coronation in 1953 that was embroidered with floral emblems of the countries that were part of the commonwealth.

Middleton accompanied the look with a sparkling headpiece, similar to a flower crown , in lieu of a tiara. In a darling matching-moment, Princess Charlotte also arrived to the ceremony wearing a similar sparkling floral headpiece with her mother. The Princess of Wales's choice of headwear was widely speculated upon prior to the event, and there were many contenders in the running. She had previously worn three different tiaras, the Lotus Flower Tiara, the Lover's Knot Tiara, and the Cartier Halo Tiara (which she wore to her wedding in 2011). Conjecture also indicated that it was possible that the Princess of Wales might wear a coronet to celebrate the occasion. But earlier this week it was reported that Middleton could forgo wearing a tiara, instead planning on a floral headpiece.

It was speculated during the planning of the coronation service, that the dress code would be daytime formal in accordance with King Charles' vision for a modern coronation. With her attire and choices of headware, Middleton not only honored this modern vision, but also made tribute to King Charles's love of nature and gardening in her headwear selection.
