(Gray News) - Kathy Bates is planning to retire with her latest project, “Matlock,” serving as her last hurrah.

The 76-year-old actress made the announcement in an interview with the New York Times on Sunday.

“This is my last dance,” she said in the interview.

Bates revealed in the interview that she had previously been ready to quit after a shoot for an unnamed move left her crying on her sofa.

However, those retirement plans were placed on hold when Bates was sent the script for the “Matlock” reboot.

The drama stars Bates as the titular character, Madeline Matlock, who rejoins the workforce at a law firm.

Bates’s list of acting credits includes “Misery,” “Titanic,” “A Family Affair” and “American Horror Story: Coven.”

She won the Academy Award for best actress for her role as Annie Wilkes in the Steven King adaptation, “Misery.”

Bates has also won two Emmys, one for her role in “American Horror Story: Coven” and the other for her work on “Two and A Half Men.”

“Matlock” premiers on CBS Sept. 22. It will later be available to stream on Paramount+.
