On Wednesday 5 July, the sun returned – bringing with it, protesters from Just Stop Oil. Shortly after reconvening her run for the Championship title an anorak-clad protester careered onto the court, hurling pieces of a 1,000-piece Wimbledon branded jigsaw puzzle and firing an orange confetti cannon. (The puzzle has now been taken off sale in the Wimbledon shop). ‘I heard the crowd before I saw anything,’ Katie Boulter said, retrospectively. The 26-year-old from Leicestershire later admitted she was ‘shocked’ by the intrusion. A BBC presenter asked if she had anticipated a run-in with the protesters (who have directed their aim at sport this summer) and she admitted the possibility hadn’t crossed her mind. Boulter even helped with the clearing up job.

But it wasn’t to be a problem – Boulter cruised through the rain-delayed and protester-disrupted match, trouncing Australia’s Daria Saville 7-6 (4) 6-2. Today, Thursday 6 July, Boulter will be up against Bulgaria’s golden-haired Viktoriya Tomova, 28, who is known for her aggressive baseline play and killer groundstrokes. She’s ranked No 99 in the world to Boulter’s 89.

One thing’s for sure in this action-packed – or obstruction-ridden – Wimbledon journey, Tatler will be cheering her on at Court 12 (and so will professional tennis-playing boyfriend Alex de Minaur).
