Fans on social media have claimed that Katie McCabe is 'lucky' to still be on the field in Ireland's Euro 2025 play-off decider at home to Wales.

The skipper was booked early for a miss-timed tackle and very nearly saw red towards the end of the first period after fouling a Welsh defender near the touchline in front of the away dugout.

The Welsh players heaped pressure on the referee to dismiss Katie, who looked nervously towards the official following the tackle, but luckily for Irish fans, the wing-back was given a final warning.

Many fans believe McCabe was fortunate to avoid a second booking, with some even going as far as to claim that the Arsenal star is lucky to still be on the pitch.

"Two very evenly matched teams largely cancelling each other out. Ireland's biggest scare of the half was Katie McCabe's near red card. She can't afford another mistimed challenge if she wants to stay on the pitch," posted journalist Paul Fennessy on Twitter.

"Katie McCabe lucky to be still on the field. She needs to be careful," posted Maurice.

Another supporter posted: "Katie McCabe blessed to not go there."

Speaking at half-time on RTE, Karen Duggan said: "If she goes down one more time and mistimes it, she's gone.

"We need a full eleven on the pitch and especially Katie McCabe."

The score is currently 0-0 on the night and 1-1 on aggregate, with the second-half about to begin.
