21 Jul 2024

Hey, did you catch Amanda Serrano’s big win tonight? She totally dominated Stevie Morgan at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, winning by a second-round stoppage. But get this – her next challenge is even bigger! Amanda Serrano is gearing up to face Katie Taylor later this year. Originally, they were supposed to fight on July 20th at the AT&T Stadium, but guess what? Mike Tyson threw a curveball, and the fight got canceled. Crazy, right?

Anyway, now they’re set for a rematch, which fans are super hyped about. These two last squared off back in April 2022, which was a razor-close fight, making the prospect of their second encounter a hot debate. So, where and when is the rematch happening? And seriously, how did Mike Tyson mess things up for them this time?

As it turns out, the whole event got postponed, not because of anything between Serrano and Taylor, but because of a health issue with boxing legend Mike Tyson. They were supposed to fight at AT&T Stadium on July 20, alongside Tyson and Jake Paul.

Do you think Mike Tyson's rematch is overshadowing Amanda Serrano vs. Katie Taylor II?

But Tyson had an ulcer flare-up on a cross-country flight, so they had to call off the whole thing. Doctors told him to take it easy for a few weeks to recover properly, which makes sense. Both Tyson and Paul agreed they need equal prep time for a fair fight, which is cool for them. Now, they’re focusing on Tyson’s health and making sure he’s good to go when the time comes.

Here’s the silver lining, though: Serrano and Taylor’s super lightweight bout is now also set for November 15th, part of the undercard for Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson. And with Paul’s recent win over Mike Perry, it looks like everything’s on track for a big night at the Home of the Dallas Cowboys. So, fingers crossed everything stays smooth sailing from here on out!

Serrano vs. Taylor II was canceled once before as well!

Yep, can you believe it? There was supposed to be a rematch between Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor, but it got canceled once already. Back in February 2023, MVP Promotions and Matchroom Boxing announced that the fight wouldn’t happen because Serrano injured her hand. They were aiming for May 20th in Dublin, but her injury from a previous bout made that impossible.

They didn’t spill the beans on exactly how she got injured, and Serrano herself didn’t give away the details either. ESPN hinted that it might’ve been from her fight against Miriam Gutierrez in December 2021, where she won by a unanimous decision. Apparently, you could see something wasn’t quite right in her fights after that against Erika Cruz, Taylor, and Sarah Mahfoud. Her punches weren’t snapping back like usual.

Luckily, she didn’t need surgery, but she did have to take a break and let her hand heal up. So, the fight had to be pushed back.

What happened when Serrano and Taylor fought for the first time?

When Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano went head-to-head in their big fight on 30th April 2022, it was more than just a match—it was an epic showdown at Madison Square Garden, blending guts, skill, and sheer determination. Taylor, the undisputed lightweight champ back then, stepped into the ring against Serrano, a beast with nine world titles across seven weight classes. The hype was real.

Right from the start, Serrano, known for her aggressive style and killer punches, came out swinging. Her southpaw stance caught Taylor off guard, landing some serious hits and taking control early on. The fight heated up as Serrano kept the pressure on, pushing Taylor to the ropes and really testing her.

But Taylor didn’t become a champ without knowing how to handle tough situations. She dug deep, adjusted her game plan, and started to show off her slick moves and precise strikes. As the fight went on, Taylor turned things around, showing her grit and refusing to back down, even when things got hairy.

In the later rounds, Taylor really showed why she’s the champ, landing some solid counters and proving she could handle the heat. When the final bell rang, it was a split decision, but Taylor came out on top with scores of 96-93 and 97-93, while one judge saw it closer at 96-94 for Serrano.

Having said that, Mike Tyson kinda did get the Amanda Serrano vs. Katie Taylor fight canceled, but of course, it wasn’t intentional by any means. But look at the bright side, fans got to see Serrano fight one more time before the rematch later this year. Who are you betting on?
