Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano

Friday’s history-making night of boxing is headlined by the controversial bout between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, but the real main event for Irish people is just beforehand, as Katie Taylor looks to write another chapter in her legendary career.

In a rematch of their record-breaking fight in Madison Square Garden in 2022, Taylor puts her women’s super-lightweight titles on the line against Puerto Rican sensation Amanda Serrano.

Taylor won a narrow decision in the first fight but came very close to being dropped in round five before finishing strongly to take home the victory.

Taylor and Serrano were due to clash again last July, but the event was postponed due to Tyson suffering an ulcer flare-up on a flight.

Since her first fight with Serrano, the Bray native returned home to the 3Arena in May 2023, losing to Chantelle Cameron before winning the rematch at the same venue last November.

Cameron is set to be next in line for whoever wins Friday’s bout.

Serrano, who’s career spans 50 fights, shot into the limelight after signing with Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions management company.

She has won five fights in a row since her last fight with Taylor to earn this rematch.

The crowd in New York gave them a standing ovation as the two warriors gave it their all in a fight for the ages.

Here’s all you need to know about the rematch.

What are the rules?

The fight will be fought under standard women’s title fight rules, with 10 two-minute rounds. Taylor puts the super-lightweight titles she won from Chantelle Cameron on the line.

How much are the fighters earning?

In the first fight, both fighters made history, becoming the first female boxers to earn a $1m purse.

This time, the pair are set to earn the biggest purses in women’s boxing history once again.

According to Boxing Kingdom, Taylor is set to earn in excess of $6.1million (€5.9million). Serrano responded by claiming that she was set to earn more.

When is the fight?

The fight will take place on Friday November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The stadium, with a capacity of 80,000, is the home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.

Due to the time difference, Taylor and Serrano are expected to make their ring-walks at around 3am Irish time.

How can I watch it?

The fight will stream live on Netflix in an unprecedented move for sports streaming. This is Netflix’s first live sporting event and it is expected that this is the first of many.
