Kelly McGrory set a new Donegal 400m hurdles record at the European Athletics Championships in Rome on Sunday.

At the Stadio Olimpico, McGrory clocked 57.10 seconds to finish seventh in her heat.

The Tir Chonaill AC woman's time wasn't enough to advance, but the Laghey native lowered the county record again.

McGrory's previous best in the event was the 57.22-seconds recorded at the 2022 National Senior Championships.

Nikoleta Jichova from Czech Republic won the heat in 54.88 seconds, ahead of Kristiina Halonen of Finland, who finished in 55.62 seconds.

McGrory was a late addition to the 400m hurdles for these Championships and could also line up in the women's 4x400m relay, which gets underway on Tuesday morning.

McGrory is also the Donegal record holder in the 400m.

Last month in Belgium, McGrory won a 400m in 52.62 seconds at the IFAM Outdoor Meet.
