Before Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were extras in a Kevin Costner movie, Costner was an extra in a Michael Keaton film.

In an interview with the eponymous host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, Costner recalled how longtime friends and film stars were extras in his 1989 baseball film classic Field of Dreams.

The scene, naturally, was set in Damon and Affleck’s home state of Massachusetts in Boston’s historic Fenway Park.

"They were sitting in the stands, like college guys,” Costner told Kimmel. “And they would both lean in at the same time, lean back at the same time, look at each other at the same time."

Costner also mentioned to Kimmel that he met Damon and Affleck during breaks in the film shoot, recalling, "We talked and they had this big enthusiasm. They were on fire."

Perhaps one of the reasons Costner was mingling with extras on one of the sets filming Field of Dreams was because he once worked as an extra himself.

In a 2015 interview with Ellen DeGeneres on her Ellen talk show, Costner recalled how he earned his Screen Actors Guild card by appearing as an extra in the 1982 romantic comedy Night Shift.

Directed by Ron Howard, Night Shift stars Henry Winkler as Chuck Lumley, an overnight morgue worker who is forced to work with his boss’ nephew Bill "Blaze" Blazejowski (Keaton in his feature film debut).

A self-proclaimed “idea man,” Blaze sets up a call girl service that operates at the morgue during his and Chuck’s night shift.

Kevin Costner appears in the film’s frat boy party scene, where Michael Keaton’s Blaze sets up a party in the morgue with the frat members and members of his and Chuck’s call-girl service.

Recalling the scene for Ellen DeGeneres in the 2015 interview, Costner—who had a still photo of the scene on a screen behind him and DeGeneres—said he thought he was 26 or 27 at the time of filming.

In the still from Night Shift, Costner’s character—who is credited in the film as Frat Boy #1—is standing between two of his fraternity brothers and holding a cup of beer.

“I remember I screamed really loud at that moment,” Costner recalled.

Henry Winkler is also featured in the scene, when his character Chuck freaks out as his happens upon the frat boy party in the morgue.

Night Shift also stars Shelly Long as Belinda Keaton, a call girl whom Chuck falls in love with.

Costner most recently starred in the TV hit Yellowstone and is starring, directing and producing the four-part Western epic Horizon: An American Saga.

Chapter 1 of Horizon opens in theaters on June 28. Batman star Keaton, meanwhile, will return as the “Ghost with the Most” in director Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2 on September 6.
