Kevin Costner was given an ultimatum by his wife Christine Baumgartner as she urged him to quit Yellowstone to try and save their marriage, according to reports.
The designer filed for divorce from her husband on Monday, just six months after she reportedly told him to quit the popular TV show because his busy schedule was impacting their family.
There are rumours Kevin will be starring as John Dutton in the sixth season of Yellowstone, despite Christine's pleas.
The 68-year-old actor has also taken on a new project which he is set to direct, produce and star in. It will see him filming for a massive 220 days.
Speaking about Kevin's hectic work schedule before the split, a friend of Christine's said: "It's really knocked a hole in their family life.
"The show is such a mega-hit, producers want it to go on forever! However, Christine wants her husband to hang up his cowboy hat, with an insider saying her patience is starting to fray."
Speaking to Radaronline, they added: "She wants a firm commitment this is his last season — or he might have to hit the dusty trail!"
Kevin and Christine, who tied the knot in 2004, are asking for joint custody of their three children - Cayden, 15, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 12.
Bodyguard actor Kevin was seen sporting his wedding ring just one day before his wife filed for divorce.
He posed for snaps with fans in Las Vegas who later took to Instagram to thank the "wonderful actor".
Kevin's publicist, Arnold Robinson, confirmed the divorce news as he said: "It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage."
According to TMZ, Christine is asking for joint custody of their three children. The couple have two sons, aged 15 and 14, as well as a 12-year-old daughter.
The publication reports that Kevin filed his response on Tuesday in which he also asks for joint custody.
