Gardaí have launched a murder investigation following the disappearance of a young boy in Co Louth.

Eight-year-old Kyran Durnin was reported missing from his home in Drogheda on Friday, August 30, but, at that point, Kyran had not been seen since 11pm on Wednesday, 28.

Despite extensive inquiries, gardaí have been unable to either locate Kyran, identify any information on his current whereabouts or any evidence he is currently alive.

On Wednesday, investigating gardaí said they now believe Kyran is missing presumed dead and have launched a murder investigation.

The investigation is being led by a senior investigation officer based out of an incident room established at Drogheda Garda Station.

Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, is working closely with and fully co-operating with the Garda investigation.

Gardaí have issued an appeal to anyone who has any information in connection with the disappearance of Kyran to contact Drogheda Garda Station on 041 987 4200 , the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

Gardaí say no arrests have been made as part of their ongoing investigation and any information provided to them, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team.

Gardaí had, on September 4, issued a missing persons appeal for Kryan's mother, 24-year-old Dayla Durnin, who was also reported missing from her home in Drogheda on August 30.

On Wednesday morning, the missing persons appeal for Dayla Durnin was stood down.
