Gardai 'keen' to find out if child benefit paid for missing Kyran Durnin ...

Cops want to know if payments were made and collected for the murdered child.

The eight-year-old was last seen at a Dundalk primary school at the end of May in 2022.
A Garda source said: “We are in contact with the Department of Social Protection to find out if child benefit was paid for Kyran and, if so how much.”
The source added: “We are keen to find out if social welfare were told he was missing, but we suspect they weren’t.
“We want to know if children’s allowance was claimed for Kyran when he was no longer alive.
“It is among a number of lines we are following, including other reported sightings of him from members of the public.
“We still believe he is dead and has been for some time.
“We may start digging in other locations to see if we can find a body in due course.”
Cops hunting for the lad carried out a dig in Dundalk, Co Louth, last month.
They plan to dig at a number of other locations in due course — but both the public and the press will be informed in advance of that happening.
The previous search at the house where the Durnin family used to live didn’t uncover any significant evidence.
Kyran’s mother Dayla Durnin is currently staying with friends in Ipswich, England.
It is understood Dayla told British police she has no idea where her son is and doesn’t know what happened to him.
A police source said: “She has been asked about the missing child and she has confirmed she does not know anything about it.
“She is distraught at the disappearance of her son and is staying with pals over here in England.”
GARDAI FOLLOWING EVERY LEADIt has also emerged that Gardai are trawling through thousands of text messages and phone call records made by several people linked to the missing lad.
Gardai have been inundated with information from the public and are slowly following up every lead.
The Garda source said: “A young boy cannot just vanish off the face of the earth without someone knowing something.”
Gardai are appealing to anyone who has any information in connection with the disappearance of Kyran to contact Drogheda Garda Station on 041 987 4200 , the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
A Garda spokesperson said: "Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team.
"This information will be treated in the strictest confidence.
"No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing."
