Even the torrential downpours of a classic Irish summer couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the boys and girls of the Cooley Peninsula, as they took part in the Carlingford Knights 2023 Leinster Rugby Camp.

A full week of fun and games was rounded off spectacularly by a visit from two Senior Leinster players.

Out-half Harry Byrne and former All-Black, and Maori All Black captain, Charlie Ngatai, joined in and helped to put the young players through their paces.

This was the second year that the Knights hosted the Leinster summer camp and club stalwart, Jack Redpath, was delighted to announce that the 2023 participation exceeded last year.

Interest is certainly growing in the Peninsula club with the committee expecting a further bounce in membership from the Rugby World Cup staring this weekend.

Age grades start at under 7 and continue up to under 17. The club, one of the newest in Ireland, prides itself on its inclusivity, with boys and girls excellently represented.

Might you, or someone you know, be interested in joining up? Volunteers and players are always welcome to the club, regardless of playing or coaching experience.

The 2023-24 season kicks off in earnest this weekend, Saturday the 9th with the mini age grades re-commencing training. U7’s 9.30am to 10.15am; U8’s and U 9’s 9.30am- 10.15am; U10 and U11’s 10am- 11am and U 12’s 10am- 11am.

Please see Carlingford Knights RFC on Facebook for further details of the up-and-coming season. This year is going to be special.
