The Cavan golfer, 28, held the lead going into each of the final two days of the Women’s PGA Championship at Baltusrol in June.

She had won her second LPGA title the week before at the Meijer Classic and was playing with confidence.

But when a third 69 of the week would have got the job done, Maguire could only manage a 74 on the final day to slip to joint-11th.

It is the closest an Irish golfer has got to lifting a women’s Major but she hopes to put that right this weekend at Walton Heath in Surrey.

Maguire said: “At Baltusrol I put three really good rounds together. I was playing really nice golf.

"But the win the week before took a lot out of me, I was drained and didn’t have enough in the tank to get over the line.

“I’d like to think that if I get myself in that position again, I’ll approach it a little differently.”

Maguire can also draw on the experiences of her male counterparts with three-time Major winner Padraig Harrington, 2019 Open champion Shane Lowry and 2014 Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley happy to offer their advice.

She added: “To be fair, they all shared their knowledge in different ways. I’ve kind of leaned on all of them at different times for different bits of advice.”
