His father Geoff has flown to South America to formally identify his son's body and organise its return to the UK.

It has been reported that Liam's body may stay in Argentina for 10 to 15 days pending toxicology test results. After the investigation concludes, his remains will be released to his family for repatriation to England, as per sources.

This timeline suggests that the funeral could occur early next month once his body is back in the UK. The British Embassy in Argentina, according to Argentinian newspaper Clarín, stated: "We are supporting Liam Payne's family and are in contact with local authorities."

Following preliminary autopsy findings by the Forensic Medical Corps at the Judicial Morgue on Viamonte Street, it was disclosed that Liam succumbed to "multiple traumas" with "internal and external bleeding" resulting from his fall.

The Public Prosecutor's Office noted: "The head injuries were sufficient to cause death, while the internal and external hemorrhages in the skull, chest, abdomen and limbs contributed to the mechanism of death.", reports the Mirror.

An investigation into the musician's death is ongoing, with toxicology and pathology tests being conducted to determine if substances played a role. Authorities may also review his medical history to assess his mental health.

Prosecutor Andrés Madrea is leading the inquiry, with testimonies being gathered by Deputy Secretary María Florencia Lavaggi. Full autopsy results are pending.

Liam's father visited the hotel where his son passed away, viewing fan tributes and expressing gratitude for the support. The family released a statement, saying: "We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we'll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul. We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time."

One Direction issued a joint statement, signed by Louis, Zayn, Niall, and Harry, stating: "We're completely devastated by the news of Liam's passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly."

"The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam."
