The 31-year-old former member of One Direction met with a tragic end when he fell from his third-floor balcony at CasaSur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, last Wednesday. His father, Geoff, has flown out to South America to formally identify his son's body and oversee its transfer back home, reports the Mirror.

The latest reports reveal that Liam's body is expected to remain in Argentina for about 10 to 15 days until toxicology test outcomes are released. When the investigation concludes, the musician's remains will be released to his family for repatriation back to England, according to local media.

Such timings indicate that the heartfelt send-off for the musical sensation could occur early next month after his remains are brought back to the UK. According to Argentinian daily Clarín, sources from the British Embassy stated: "We are supporting Liam Payne's family and are in contact with local authorities."

Following the release of preliminary autopsy results, it has been confirmed that Liam's death was caused by "multiple traumas" resulting in "internal and external bleeding" after his fall. The Public Prosecutor's Office said in a statement: "The head injuries were sufficient to cause death , while the internal and external hemorrhages in the skull, chest, abdomen and limbs contributed to the mechanism of death."

Further investigations, including toxicology and anatomical-pathological studies of Liam's blood and urine, are being conducted to determine if there were any traces of substances present. Additionally, Liam's medical history may be reviewed to assess his mental health.

Prosecutor No. 16, led by Andrés Madrea, is leading the investigation, with testimonies being taken by Deputy Secretary María Florencia Lavaggi.

The full autopsy results will be disclosed in due course. Liam's father, who traveled to Argentina, paid tribute to his son at the hotel where he tragically passed away, viewing fan tributes and expressing gratitude for their support.

In a statement, Liam's family expressed their heartbreak, saying: "We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we'll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul. We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time."

The members of One Direction, Louis, Zayn, Niall, and Harry, released a heartfelt joint statement on Thursday night, expressing their devastation over Liam's passing. The statement read: "We're completely devastated by the news of Liam's passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly."

They continued, "The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam."

In the wake of Liam's passing, fans worldwide have organised vigils to pay tribute to the late singer. A memorial service has already taken place in his hometown of Wolverhampton, as well as in Liverpool.

In Wolverhampton, around 100 people gathered outside St Peter's Church, laying flowers and bowing in respect. A childhood photo of Liam, surrounded by candles, was among the tributes.

Additional gatherings are scheduled for Sunday in major cities such as London, Manchester, and Birmingham. Fans have also come together Brussels, Belgium, Stockholm, Sweden, and Paris, France. There have also been large gatherings of fans in Bogotá, Colombia, Sydney, Australia, and Manila, Philippines.

Over 100 mourners gathered in central London to pay their respects to the beloved singer Liam. In an emotional Sunday afternoon, fans were seen holding pictures of the late star, alongside heartfelt notes, balloons, and flowers at the iconic Peter Pan statue in Kensington Gardens within Hyde Park.

A One Direction fan from the US said she ended her visit to Ireland's capital abruptly so she could share her grief with other fans of Liam in Hyde Park, London. Tess Hayden, 24, who was on holiday with her brother in Dublin when she heard the news, said she thought the memorial in front of the Peter Pan statue would be "the best one to come to".

She said: "Well, my older brother and I had been planning a trip to Dublin for a while, and I knew I was gonna try and come to London at some point at the end of the trip, but when I woke up and heard the news, I was like, 'okay, I'll just go a day earlier (and) try and figure (it) out." Ms Hayden added that it was "very surreal" as a death at 31 is "very sad and devastating, and shocking".

She added: "It's a reminder of what a huge part of my childhood and growing up, Liam and One Direction were," she also said. Two other fans, Lauren Anderson and Natasha Bradley, both 23, spoke about how they got each other through the loss of the singer.

Ms Bradley said it was "hard trying to get over it" as she added: "I've literally been feeling so sad like ever since the news came on, I just didn't believe that." She also said "Lauren's been the one that I've been speaking to the most about it", and she wanted to be around people who were "feeling the same because your parents, they don't really understand how much they really meant to you growing up."
