Fine Gael candidate the first councillor elected in 2024 election

Seven of 19 seats have been filled in the County electoral areas in the local elections.

Fine Gael's Stephen Keary had the honour of the being the first candidate elected as he topped the poll in the Adare-Rathkeale LEA.

His party colleague Adam Teskey was also elected last night in the six sat constituency.

Elsewhere Independent Jerome Scanlan topped the poll in Newcastle West with 2,301 votes with Liam Galvin of Fine Gael being elected for a fifth consecutive term followed home by Fianna Fail's Michael Collins.

In the Cappamore-Kilmallock LEA Independent Brigid Teefy again topped the poll with Cappamore councillor Martin Ryan also making the quota.

So far the 3 Fine Gael, 2 Independents and 2 Fianna Fail candidates have been elected with counting resuming in all three electoral areas this morning.
