Mayor of Limerick warns there's 'no silver bullet' to deliver his five ...
MAYOR John Moran has admitted his ambitious plans for Limerick will not fully happen in his first five-year term of office.
In his blueprint, the first citizen has outlined a series of priorities to transform the city and county.
Among these are plans to bring a “nationally significant” Christmas market to Limerick, extend the hours of the Milk Market, as well as convert a city centre street to become “pet friendly” in the city centre.
His flagship aim, however, is to bring in quick-build modular homes for short-term use in a bid to ease the housing crisis, and identify State-owned land to construct on.

On top of this, he has identified a series of new suburban rail stations around Limerick and the development of housing and industry around these in order to create compact growth.
But in his 108-page blueprint, he has acknowledged it will not all happen between now and the next mayoral election in 2029.
“This is the ambitious Limerick I aspire to build. It will not happen without much work. It will not be complete by the end of my five-year term because there is no silver bullet. Nevertheless, I believe that with an ambitious, well-designed plan, we can ask for and will deserve a greater slice of the national funding to get a lot done,” he said.
Mayor Moran believes if Limerick can come together “united as one”, things can be done.
“It can build on the resilience that has brought Limerick through adversity over and over again, build on our innovativeness and our sense of hard work and build on our welcoming embrace to old and new communities to finally deliver the Limerick our children deserve,” his blueprint reads.
Mayor Moran’s next priority is to get his budget through on Friday.
