Pedestrian and passenger killed in separate collisions in Limerick ...
Two people have lost their lives on our roads in less than 24 hours.
The fatalities occurred in separate incidents in counties Limerick and Louth.
A pedestrian was killed on the Dublin Road in Castletroy in Limerick on Friday night at around 9.50pm.
The incident involved two cars and a pedestrian. The driver of one of the cars failed to remain at the scene.
The pedestrian, a man, was taken to University Hospital Limerick where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the second car, a man in his 40s, and a woman who was a passenger were also taken to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.
One of the cars involved was allegedly subject to interaction with An Garda Síochána prior to the fatal incident on Dublin Road.
The matter has been referred to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (Gsoc) under Section 102 of the Garda Síochána Act, 2005, as is required by statute.
A spokeswoman from Gsoc said: "Gsoc received a referral from An Garda Síochána during the early hours of Saturday, 14 October, following a road traffic incident in the Annacotty area of Co Limerick.
"The referral was made by a Garda Superintendent under section 102(1) of the Garda Síochána Act, 2005.
"The matter is now under examination by GSOC and no further comment will be made at this time."
The scene is currently being preserved as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conduct a technical examination.
Dublin Road from the junction of the Groody Roundabout through to the junction of the Golf Links Road is closed. Local diversions are in place.

Separately, a man died following a collision between a tractor and a car in Co Louth.
It happened on the M1 Northbound between Junctions 12 and 14 at Mooremont at around 2am on Saturday morning.
The passenger of the car, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two other occupants of the car, two men aged in their 20s and 60s, have been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital to be treated for injuries believed to be non-life threatening.
No other injuries have been reported.
The M1 Northbound lanes before Junction 13 are currently closed while the M1 Southbound lanes remain open and local diversions are in place.
A technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators will be conducted.
The two fatalities brings to 146 the number of people killed on Irish roads so far this year including 38 pedestrians and 32 passengers.
This figure is up 31 on the same period last year and 37 on 2019.
Gardaí in both Co Limerick and Co Louth are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed either incident to contact them.
Anyone who may have footage from the areas around the time of the collisions, including dash cam, are asked to make this available to investigating gardaí.
