Significant development in €450 million Limerick road project ...

THE LEGAL process to progress a multi-million euro road project in County Limerick has taken a significant step forward, it has been confirmed. 

Limerick City and County Council says Notices to Treat are being posted to landowners, occupiers and lessees on route of the Foynes to Limerick Road Project (including the Adare Bypass).

A Notice to Treat is effectively a formal commitment by the local authority to proceed with the compulsory acquisition of lands required for the development -  up to now it was not legally obliged to do so.  

Those who are served with Notices to Treat are required to state, within two months, the exact nature of their interest (in the lands/property) together with details of the compensation being sought.

Limerick City and County Council says it is continuing to progress the project to the next stage of delivery and ultimately to connect the Port of Foynes to the Motorway network near Limerick city.

Welcoming the confirmation that Notices to Treat were posted this Monday, Minister for State and Fianna Fáil TD for Limerick county Niall Collins commented: “Following the recent withdrawal of judicial review proceedings which then allowed full planning permission to be granted, the next step is the issue of Notices to Treat to landowners. This is a major step forward in the project process and this allows negotiations on the purchase of the properties required to build the new road. It is very heartening to see the project advancing as quickly as possible.

The Foynes to Limerick Road Project will include 35km stretch of road, including 17km of motorway, and includes a bypass of several towns and villages.

It is estimated it will cost in the region of €450m to complete.

It is hoped the Adare Bypass element of the project can be completed in advance of the 2027 Ryder Cup in Adare Manor.
