Heartfelt tributes have continued to flood in for Lorna Woodnutt who was tragically killed in a violent attack in her home in Co Offaly last week.

One man who used to be Lorna’s neighbour, said: “There are no words for something like this. Lorna lived up the road from me when I was younger, and was a lovely person. My dad used to have a chat with her and her sisters at the gate, they always had time for him, with a smile and a laugh. Our thoughts and love go out to Lorna's family and close friends. Rest in peace Lorna."

Prayers were shared for Lorna at the 8.30am Mass in the Church of the Assumption, in Tullamore over the weekend.

Fr Joseph Campbell prayed for Lorna, who died in tragic circumstances in the Rahan area, on Friday, September 29. He prayed that her family received the support they so badly need at this sad time.

Offaly Domestic Violence Support Services also shared a tribute alongside a picture of Lorna: “Our deepest sympathies to Lorna’s family, friends and community at this sad and tragic time.”

Local Cllr, Sandy Feehan-Smollen, paid tribute to the victim, saying: “Like most people I am truly shocked by the horrific murder of a woman by a teenage boy near Tullamore today.”

She added: “My deepest condolences to the family, relatives, neighbours and friends of the deceased woman.”

Someone else on social media said: “There's not much you can say wen something like this happens. My heartfelt condolences to the Woodnutt family. This never should've happened. Please be respectful of Lorna's family and delete and pictures or videos of this poor woman's death. No one deserves their life to be taken and she deserves to keep her dignity too."

A teenage boy has been charged with Lorna's murder and appeared in court in Tullamore via videolink on Wednesday. Judge Andrew Cody then remanded the teenager in detention at Oberstown to appear before Tullamore District Court by videolink again on October 18 next at 10.15am.
