BBC viewers were largely unanimous in their reaction on Wednesday evening as the debut of Ludwig aired on BBC One. The fresh comedy-drama stars David Mitchell as John Taylor, who unexpectedly finds himself in Cambridge at his sister-in-law Lucy Betts-Taylor's (played by Anna Maxwell Martin) behest.

As the narrative unfolds, he uncovers that his twin brother DCI James Taylor has mysteriously disappeared. Lucy recounts how his behaviour altered following a case he was investigating before his disappearance.

Lucy showed John a note from her husband, instructing her to escape immediately with their child, though she remained against leaving and enlisted John's help to assume his twin's identity and uncover the truth. Despite his initial reservations, John consents spurred on by his knack for solving puzzles and discerns hidden messages within the letter left by his brother, reports the Mirror.

The show soon became a talking point on Twitter, where viewers expressed their opinions on the series, particularly criticising its soundtrack. One viewer expressed frustration with Beethoven's heavily featured music, saying: "I think they've made their point with the Beethoven."

Another shared sentiments about the omnipresent score: "Quite enjoying #Ludwig but the constant music is bad enough without every bit being mangled Beethoven." A third viewer remarked on the burden of the upbeat musical score: " #Ludwig Not sure if I'll be able to tolerate the jaunty. Up. Beat. Comedy score support. For. Much. Longer.."

Another bluntly vented: "Oh ffs! Is that irritating 'this is a comedy romp' music going to be constant and underline fact it's called ... #Ludwig," showing further disapproval.

One viewer expressed their opinion online: "#Ludwig music is rather annoying. Apart from that good." Another viewer made a clear request: "Can we please stop with the music ! ! #Ludwig".

Despite these comments, it appears the majority of the audience took to the new show favourably, with numerous fans confessing they were eager to binge-watch the episodes on iPlayer. In the episode, viewers saw John become part of the major investigations team, where he was charged with solving an unrelated murder while masquerading as his brother.

John's knack for puzzles soon revealed that he had a natural talent for crime-solving, leading him to continue the impersonation of his brother in hopes of discovering his whereabouts. The preview for the upcoming episode teases: "While on his way to the station to gather more information about his brother's last case, John finds himself drawn to another grisly crime scene at a grand Manor House but what looks to be a missing person's case turns into something far more sinister."

"Lucy embarks on a quest for answers at the residence of one of her husband's former colleagues."
