The search for a pensioner who had been missing from her home in Dublin for nearly six weeks has been stood down following the discovery of her body.

Margaret Barber had left her house in Mount Merrion early on the morning of Thursday, August 8, and was spotted in the car park of Booterstown Dart station a short time later.

The 66-year-old was reported missing the following day, with both gardaí and her family expressing concern for her well-being. A major search operation was launched, and gardaí renewed their appeal for information on August 20.

The search was stood down this afternoon, however, following the discovery of Ms Barber’s body.

She had worked as manager of the community centre in Mount Merrion, and was described as “a wonderful woman” on social media by people who knew her following her disappearance. A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed that the search operation had ended earlier today.

“Following the discovery of a body, the missing person appeal in respect of Margaret Barber, 66 years, who was reported missing since 8th August 2024, has been stood down,” they said.

“An Garda Síochána would like to thank the media and public for their assistance in this matter. No further action is required and no further information is available at this time.”
