Marseille are keen to add Greenwood to their squad after holding positive talks with the player.

The 22-year-old is believed to favour a switch to the Ligue 1 club above other options at present.

Manchester United remain focused on selling Mason Greenwood this summer and are aiming to get as near to their £40m valuation as possible, talkSPORT reported on Wednesday.

Greenwood has strong interest from Lazio, Napoli and Juventus as well as clubs in Spain, Germany and Portugal.

Serie A side Lazio had an offer worth in excess of £17m rejected earlier this year.

A switch to the Orange Velodrome is likely to see Greenwood link up with former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi after Marseille reached an agreement in principle to become the club’s new head coach.

OM want to bolster their attack this season and see Greenwood as the perfect foil for last season's top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Last season’s disappointing eighth-placed league finish means Marseille will not play in European competition next season as they look to get their domestic fortunes back on track.

Greenwood netted ten goals in 36 appearances for Getafe last season and the La Liga club have made their feelings clear that they would like him to stay for a further 12 months.

Manchester United made the forward available for transfer in August 2023 after discarding their plans to reintegrate him into the first team at Old Trafford.

It comes after the club decided that their academy graduate would continue his career away from the club after the Crown Prosecution Service dropped charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control against him.

Greenwood denied all allegations levelled at him after his initial arrest at his home in January 2022.
