The possibility of a Little Britain comeback is back on the table after Matt Lucas hinted at it during an appearance on RTÉ's The Late Late Show.

Sitting down with host Patrick Kielty, Matt Lucas was asked directly about the potential for a revival of the iconic sketch show that he created with David Walliams.

His response, though far from a confirmation, was certainly enough to intrigue fans.

Lucas told Patrick Kielty that dressing up as different characters was fun for the pair.

"I think we would like to do something else," he said. "It is just fun to us. You know, that's all we ever wanted to do."

Since it first aired in 2003, Little Britain has maintained a loyal fanbase and while the show ran for multiple series and saw a number of spin-offs including Little Britain USA and Come Fly With Me, it has faced increased scrutiny in recent years due to some of their characters and the use of black face.

Both Matt Lucas and David Walliams have expressed some regret over certain sketches and characters on the show and have acknowledged that comedy has evolved since the show first aired.

If the show were to return, it would likely see the pair reassess the characters they were portraying and reinvent the show for a modern audience.

For now, fans will have to wait and see if the beloved duo will in fact return. While the door to a Little Britain revival appears to be far from closed, the pair appear to be waiting for the right moment to make it happen.
