'I'm scared of absolutely everything' – Maura Higgins enters 'I'm a ...
Maura Higgins has been revealed as a late entry into I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!
The TV personality will join the other contestants in Australia for the reality show.
The Love Island star said despite being “scared of absolutely everything”, joining this year’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! line-up is a “real pinch-me moment”.
“This is the only TV show I have ever wanted to do and it’s a real pinch-me moment,” Higgins said.
“I am ready to step outside my comfort zone. I hope I do make myself proud and I am both excited but also very nervous, because I am scared of absolutely everything.”
Higgins admitted she is “absolutely petrified” of taking part in an eating challenge and had “never slept outside before”, but was looking forward to being without fake tan and having a phone detox.
“I am going to be brave,” she said. “I want to go in and see how I get on.
“It was the same with Love Island and I am looking forward to it all.”
Higgins first found fame on the 2019 series of Love Island, when she was paired up with dancer Curtis Pritchard.
The 33-year-old, who has since been romantically linked to Love Island star Chris Taylor and former Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni Pernice, admitted falling in love under the stars is not on her agenda.
“I am single at the moment, but honestly no-one is going to fancy me in the jungle. Trust me,” she said.
“I can be an emotional person. This might shock a lot of people. But if I am comfortable with someone, that’s when my vulnerabilities come out.
“You are lacking in caffeine, sugar and it’s completely out of your comfort zone. You will probably get emotional at times and so it will be nice to have someone in camp to offload to.”
Higgins added that her family were “very excited” by her ITV appearance and told her “to come back with a crown”.
It comes as the Irish star recently declared that she is “very much single” despite recent speculation that she had been enjoying a new romance with reality star Pete Wicks.
Rumours that the Love Island star and Towie legend were an item began circulating when they were spotted having a "passionate" kiss last August.
But Maura, who has just arrived in Australia, shut down the suggestion.
Another star that will appear in the show is revealed to be writer and broadcaster Reverend Richard Coles.
The latest I'm a Celebrity episode sees Dean and GK selected to complete the latest Bushtucker Trial Drown in the Dumps as voted by the public.
They were defeated with zero stars won and are left to go back to camp empty-handed.
Meanwhile, British singer Danny Jones revealed a meaning behind his tattoo.
He pointed to tattoos on his wrists which say "Don't worry, be happy" and explained it's because he's "always constantly worrying but that's what he's working on".
He revealed he has been in therapy since he was 19 due to anxiety.
Jones recalled he once had a panic attack on live TV while being interviewed.
Meanwhile, dancer Oti Mabuse, who comforted the McFly star, opened up about her family tragedy.
“I think it’s really good that you keep saying people must talk, especially young boys," she said.
"I don’t think young boys tend to talk that much and the suicide rate is so high in young men especially, so I think it’s important that you keep telling people to talk about it.
“I had a brother who committed suicide when he was 16 and I think if he had spoken to someone about what he was feeling, it would’ve been a different turnout," she added.
I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! continues at 9pm on Virgin Media One and Virgin Media Play.
