Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has taken a shot at Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff after the Silver Arrows boss dismissed the Dutchman’s 10th straight Grand Prix win as “for Wikipedia.”

When asked about Verstappen’s dominance compared with Mercedes, Wolff stated “our situation was a little bit different because we had two guys fighting against each other within the team.”

“I don’t know whether he cares about the record, it’s not something that would be important for me, any of those numbers.

“It’s for Wikipedia, nobody reads that anyway.”

The Dutchman’s win streak continued around Monza, as he won the Italian Grand Prix to claim a historic string of victories in the sport, breaking Sebastian Vettel’s record.

With Red Bull having won all 14 races of the season so far, 12 of which were secured by Verstappen, it’s possible more records will fall in the coming weeks.

Discussing his success, Verstappen claimed he “never thought” it would be possible for him to break Vettel’s record.

“Of course it’s something you don’t expect to happen,” Verstappen said.

“I never thought at the beginning of the season that something like this was possible.

“So I’m just very proud, but also just very happy with the race in general.

“I’m very proud also of the whole team effort, the whole year already.

“What we are doing at the moment winning every race this year is something that we definitely are enjoying, because I don’t think these kind of seasons come around very often, and that’s the same of course as winning 10 in a row.”

Speaking to the media after the race, Verstappen couldn’t resist the change to fire back at Wolff in a subtle but clear comment.

Discussing Lewis Hamilton’s own records, Verstappen mistakenly claimed the Brit had won 6 titles.

“It is seven. It’s in the history books. You can look it up,” the reporter said, correcting him.

“I mean, I’m not very sure,” Verstappen replied.

“I don’t read Wikipedia.”
