Merry Christmas

The Christmas season is a perfect time for the team at Brady O’Brien Live to reflect.

What started as a local piano prodigy’s dream is now a cherished reality for Brady O’Brien, as the 2022 St. Edmond graduate and his support system celebrate their fifth anniversary with “A Very Merry Christmas” at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, at Decker Auditorium.

Brady O’Brien Live has hosted nearly a dozen concerts since its inception. The group’s namesake has always focused on bringing the area’s rich musical talent to life while raising funds and awareness for those in need throughout the region.

In many ways, the 20-year-old O’Brien feels both blessed by and content with the success of his nonprofit organization. He knows there are always new ways to improve and evolve, though.

“I’m extremely proud of how much we have grown in the last five years,” O’Brien said. “I’m so fortunate to be surrounded by people who are driven to be a part of this mission and to continue to help others. My beliefs guide me in each step, and I wholeheartedly believe the main reason I — along with all of our musicians — were put on this earth was to help others and to share our music.

“Throughout my career, I’ve been blessed to meet so many wonderful people and experience so many incredible things because of music. I am forever grateful for that.”

Brady O’Brien Live has raised over $34,000 total in support of various endeavors through the years. This concert will be funding a “Christmas Wish” project in the Fort Dodge area.

“It’s designed to donate to families or individuals in need, with the help of the community,” O’Brien said. “Our board has received nominations, and we are creating ways to fulfill each wish to the fullest extent possible. We will continue to receive them until the day of the show.

“Our goal and passion at Brady O’Brien Live is to help those in need through our love of live music.”

This year’s Christmas concert — the fifth of its kind in as many years presented by O’Brien — will feature acclaimed local performers Grace Casciato, Elle Clark, Malaney Butrick and Emma Davis.

As is always the case, the familiarity of the lineup doesn’t mean the performance will be predictable.

“Without giving too much away, we’re trying some new theatrical concepts that will bring the musicians closer to audience members,” O’Brien said. “We’re also adding new styles of blocking and interactions on stage to enhance the performance.

“The show will feature an in-depth set design complemented by many unique and custom outfits. I truly enjoy creating new concepts, looks, and visions to bring each show to life. With every professional performance I see, I’m inspired to add or design an element to our shows.”

O’Brien knows the talent he taps is both important to the overall product and a chance to offer them a new platform.

“I’m blessed to have worked with so many talented individuals,” O’Brien said. “Each year, I enjoy featuring new artists and try to help them in a new way. Many young artists don’t often receive the opportunity to be featured and perform on a mainstage of this caliber, which could not be possible without our amazing volunteers, team, and sponsors.

“Working with the vocalists this year has been such a fun adventure. For those who don’t know, the hardest part of creating a show with this many musicians is balancing schedules. Thankfully, each musician is talented beyond words. I’m so grateful they are willing to share the gifts not only with me, but the community. Each vocalist brings a unique style to the table, and together, it’s magic.”
