Veronica Campelo from Portlaoise has been chosen to represent Laois at Miss Universe Ireland 2024, which takes place this coming weekend.

The event will be held at the Fairways Hotel, Dundalk, County Louth, on Friday, September 20.

Veronica, 40, has a business degree, works in retail and is also an actress and model.

“I will always continue to dream big and live for today,” Veronica said.

“I want to continue been an actress and model. I want to have and portray a positive influence on all woman who are going through a hard time at the moment.

“I want to show that it is Ok to not be OK. I want to be an inspiration and role model for my 1 year old little girl.

“In this every changing world we now live in I want to show her the right path to grow up on and give her ever opportunity to fulfil her dreams.

“I want to continue to support the causes that are close to my heart. Its always a dream of mine to be able lead and help others in need and looking for advice in life.”

27 finalists from all over the country will compete for the coveted Miss Universe Ireland crown this Friday at a spectacular ceremony with a special guest performance from Irish chart-topping Boyband,  Next in Line

Current title holder, Aisha Akorede, will crown the winner who will go on represent Ireland at the 73rd Miss Universe final in Mexico City this November.

The event will feature 90 women from around the globe vying for the job of Miss Universe, selected via events including personal statements, in-depth interviews, evening gown, and swimwear.

For the first time ever, finalists can be married or divorced, they can be mothers or trans women and there is NO upper age limit or height requirements.

Contestants from over 90 countries compete each year for the title of Miss Universe.
