Gardaí in the west made an extra discovery when they pulled over a vehicle for a routine stop.

The incident occurred on Monday 4 November 2024 when Gardaí pulled over a car in the Clonark area of Co Roscommon.

Upon inspection, Gardaí discovered that the vehicle had not had a valid NCT certificate for a whole year. The driver of the car was tested at the roadside, and the test proved positive for cannabis.

Gardaí arrested the driver and seized the vehicle. Legal proceeding will now follow for the driver.

Garda's Roads Policing unit shared an image of the vehicle in question as well as details of the stop: "Gardaí in Roscommon were on patrol in Clonark when they alerted that this car had no NCT for a year.

"They were stopped and the driver tested positive for cannabis. They were arrested and the car was seized. Proceedings to follow."

In other roads news, the young man who died in a tractor incident on Saturday in Galway has been named locally. Joshua Sullivan tragically died after suffering serious injuries in the incident in the Moneymore area of Galway. The 19-year-old is predeceased by his mum Jackie.

Following the incident, Joshua was rushed to University Hospital Galway but was pronounced dead a short time later. No other injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

In a statement to Galway Beo, a Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic incident near Oranmore, Co. Galway yesterday afternoon, Saturday 2nd November 2024. Gardaí were alerted to an incident involving a tractor which occurred on a local road in Rinn, Oranmore at approximately 3:30pm."

They added: "A male passenger, 19-years-old, injured in the incident was transferred by ambulance personnel to University Hospital Galway, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased. No other injuries were reported. The scene was preserved for a technical examination which has since taken place and the road has reopened. A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been appointed to support the family of the deceased."
