Canadian tourist dies in hospital nine days after assault in Dublin

A Canadian tourist who was assaulted in Dublin nine days ago has died in hospital, gardaí have confirmed.
41-year-old Neno Dolmajian, who was from Montreal, was attacked on O’Connell Street and Cathal Brugha Street, Dublin 1, in the early hours of Sunday, June 23.
He was taken to Dublin's Mater Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
On Tuesday, gardaí confirmed he had passed away. It is understood that members of Mr Dolmajian's family had travelled to Dublin in recent days to be by his bedside.
To date, four men have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Two of these men have been charged and appeared before the Criminal Courts of Justice.
Gardai said that as the matter is currently before the courts, they could not release any further information.
After gardaí confirmed his death, Taoiseach Simon Harris told the Dáil: “I want to join you in expressing my sympathy to the family.
“That’s a heart-breaking situation. That’s an extraordinarily devastating situation for the family.” Aontu leader Peadar Toibín said: “Our deepest sympathies go out to his family.
“It points to a very, very serious issue that on the main street of our capital city is a dangerous and violent place on a regular basis for so many people.
“It’s not just the main street of our capital city, it’s towns and villages across the country that people do not feel safe. And it’s not happening by accident.
“It’s happening because we have the lowest number of gardaí regarding per capita.”
