Viewers were greeted by the radio presenter, who co-hosted with regular anchors Muireann O'Connell and Alan Hughes, on Monday morning.

Taking to Instagram, Kieran confirmed he was "double jobbing" for the week in Tommy's absence.

He was, of course, referring to his own job as presenter of Newstalk's daily drivetime show, The Hard Shoulder.

Viewers enjoyed watching Kieran on Monday morning's show.

Great combination of presenters this morning," one wrote on social media.

"Keiran Cuddihy did an excellent job," added anoter.

While a third said: "Good team this morning".

Kieran is no stranger to Ireland AM viewers as he has previously stepped in to guest host the show while other presenters take leave.

However, he is best known for his work on Newstalk after replacing Ivan Yates on The Hard Shoulder back in 2020.

The Kilkenny native previously opened up about his daily commute to Dublin, telling RSVP Live: "I know a lot of people would hate the commute but I don’t mind it. A couple of things work in my favour.

"I am not travelling at rush hour, I am coming up from Kilkenny after it in the morning and leaving Dublin after it in the evenings. I don’t hit bad traffic.

"There is also a bit of peace and quiet in the car for an hour and a half each way.

"People might hate sitting in the car for that length of time. I have young kids so it is chaotic at home, and it is chaotic at work. The 90 minutes each way is something I enjoy."

Kieran added that he doesn't pay much attention to competition from rival radio stations such as Today FM and RTE Radio 1 and focuses on his on work.

He said: "I don't really bother with it. When I started the show first I was more conscious of what the other shows were doing.

"Over time I realised that it was a waste of time worrying about what other people are doing. It is like in sport, you have to control the controllables.

"I can't do anything about what Matt Cooper or Sarah McInerney and Cormac O'hEadhra do or anyone in any station does.

"All we can work on is work on our three hours that we have to fill everyday and make them as entertaining as we can."
