Liverpool's summer transfer window is yet to truly get underway as new boss Arne Slot analyses his squad.

Slot is expected to ask club chiefs for a number of new signings to bolster the squad that Jurgen Klopp left behind. Top of his list is Nico Williams, who has been staring for Spain at Euro 2024.

But the Reds are now facing a challenge from Barcelona for the winger, with the Catalan club seen as being his dream destination. Amid that blow, alternative target Anthony Gordon is growing unsettled as speculation continues to surround his future.

And Borussia Dortmund have hinted they are willing to accept a cut-price fee for Karim Adeyemi, who has been linked with a move to Anfield. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Liverpool transfer news.

Barca enter Williams race

Barcelona have entered the race to sign Nico Williams, in a blow to Liverpool's hopes of signing the winger. Williams has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield, but Barca president Joan Laporta is confident he can snatch the Spain international from under the Reds' noses.

"Economically speaking, we could commit to the signing of Nico Williams," Laporta told Catalunya Radio. "Nico's a player I like, I like him a lot. We are working with [coach Hansi] Flick on possible signings.

"Now we have to leave [sporting director] Deco to close the operations we are working on. Shortly we will be able to announce some good news with regard to the financial [issues] and we will be back within La Liga's Fair Play limits. And that will allow further good news in terms of [signings]."

Liverpool target Anthony Gordon is reportedly growing distracted by the rumours around his future. The 23-year-old is currently part of the England squad at Euro 2024, though has struggled for game time at the tournament.

Gordon starred for Newcastle last season, winning the club's Player of the Year award. Those performances, coupled with the Magpies' difficult situation with FFP rules, saw him emerge as a target for Liverpool.

While the Reds ultimately turned down the chance to sign him, the Daily Star report that there is 'growing concern' among England chiefs that Gordon has become distracted by the speculation and has 'taken his eye off the ball a little bit'.

Dortmund pushing for Adeyemi move

Borussia Dortmund appear to be pushing for Karim Adeyemi's departure from the club, with Liverpool one of the teams linked with a move. Adeyemi joined the Bundesliga side in the summer of 2022, but has struggled to live up to his potential.

Last season, the attacker scored just five goals in all competitions as he slipped down the pecking order. According to Sky Germany, Dortmund are now willing to let him leave and will consider sanctioning a sale if a bid of £25million is submitted.

Liverpool are one of the teams named as being interested in the German youngster as their search for a new winger continues. Chelsea, AC Milan and Juventus are also in the running, though no concrete bids have been submitted.
