Famed Galway full-back Noel Tierney has died, aged 82.
From the Milltown club, Tierney won three senior All-Irelands in a row with the great Galway team of 1964-66. Renowned for his high fielding, he was named footballer of the year after the first of those successes.
At a function in the Milltown club in recent weeks, that achievement was celebrated again with current footballer of the year Paul Conroy also in attendance.

With Connacht, he won two Railway Cups, captaining the province in 1969.
At club level, Tierney was part of the Milltown team that won the Galway SFC in 1971, their first title.
