Broadcaster Paul Byrne to join Cork's 96FM as Opinion Line producer
Former Virgin Media correspondent Paul Byrne is joining Cork’s 96FM as producer of The Opinion Line with PJ Coogan, the station’s daily talk show.
The award-winning journalist and Cork native will occasionally step in as guest presenter.
Mr Byrne, a seasoned broadcaster who began his radio career at just 14, expressed excitement about returning to the medium.
“Cork’s 96FM is part of Cork’s rich history, and the station’s focus on local stories, news, and music makes it a success,” he said.
Mr Byrne was appointed as TV3’s southern correspondent 26 years ago and retained the position when Virgin Media took over the station.
He announced his departure from Virgin Media in June after a settlement in his High Court action against the station over its decision to bring internal disciplinary proceedings against him.
Cork’s 96FM Local Content Controller Brendan O'Driscoll praised Mr Byrne’s extensive experience, highlighting his skill with human interest stories.
"Paul is bringing a wealth of experience to the team at Cork's 96FM", he said.
"He is renowned for his ability to get the best from people who want to tell their story."
Mr Byrne joins Senior Producer Fergal Barry and host PJ Coogan from November 4.
