Deputy Danny Healy-Rae and Deputy Paul Murphy were locked in a bitter exchange in the Dáil on Tuesday after Deputy Healy-Rae made remarks about the non gender of Deputy Murphy’s baby.

The row erupted during a debate on the Finance Bill when Healy-Rae and Murphy got tangled in a disagreement over abolishing Universal Social Charge (USC).

When Deputy Murphy intimated that his party (People Before Profit-Solidarity) had also voted to abolish it, Deputy Healy-Rae said: “What do you know? Sure you do not know whether your own son, baby is a boy or a girl.”

Deputy Murphy responded to Deputy Healy-Rae by saying ‘F**k off’ and calling him a ‘F**king asshole’. Deputy Healy-Rae was branded a ‘disgrace’ by other TDs who called on him to withdraw the remark.

Deputy Healy said ‘it was the truth’ but later withdrew it.

“It is the truth but if it will please you, I will withdraw it. It is for the individual itself I am concerned,” he said.
