THE Only Way is Essex star Pete Wicks has opened up about why he looked 'different' after sparking concern during his fleeting appearance on I'm A Celebrity.

Pete had been on hand to support his best pal, and eventual King of the Jungle, Sam Thompson throughout his time on the show.

The ladies man flew out to Australia and has been rooting for him on social media after telling fans he was "so proud" of Sam and his jungle achievements.

However, some fans were left concerned for Pete after he appeared on screen to support Sam over the last few episodes.

Pete surprised the Made in Chelsea star on Friday's show during a sweet friend and family reunion.

He once again popped up at the end of the jungle bridge to celebrate Sam taking the crown.

Fans were left distracted by Pete's face as it appeared 'swollen' and unlike his usual fresh-faced appearance.

Now, Pete has set the record straight to reveal what was really the cause of his different appearance.

He informed fans he had been subjected to a series of mosquito bites which had led to a bad reaction.

Confirming that his face had returned to normal and all was well, the star wrote in an Instagram story: "Also, you'll all be pleased to know my face has returned to normal following the horrific reaction I had to the mosquito bites."

He then joked: "They saw my face and thought it was an all you can eat buffet."

Pete provided the needed for support after girlfriend, Zara McDermott, remained at home ahead of preparations for the Strictly Come Dancing grand final.

Reflecting on his win, Sam said to Ant and Dec after the crowning moment: "Oh my God. I’m really overwhelmed.

"I didn’t think I was even going to be invited on the show. I don’t know what to say.

"Oh my God. I’m so grateful, thank you so much. I’ve dreamt of doing this show for years and years.

"You’ve made a boy’s dream come true. Thank you."
